Kinky on O'Reilly Factor (April 14)
BILL O'REILLY, HOST: "The O'Reilly Factor" is on. Tonight...
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JEREMIAH WRIGHT, REVEREND: FOX News can't understand that. O'Reilly will never get that. Sean Hannity's stupid fantasy will keep him forever stuck on stupid when it comes to comprehending how you can love a brother who does not believe what you believe.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: He's back and he's not happy. Reverend Jeremiah Wright lashing out against FOX News.
But does that help Barack Obama?
Also, Hillary attacking Obama for disrespecting the folks.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HILLARY CLINTON
(D), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I was taken aback by the demeaning remarks Senator Obama made about people in small town America.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Juan Williams and Kinky Friedman on Obama's bad weekend.
Iran continues to kill and maim Americans in Iraq. And the General Electric Corporation continues to do business with that country. We'll continue our investigation.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I do not know why they have my children. No one has told me anything.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: And were children being raised as sex slaves in a Texas cult? "The Factor" has the inside story.
Caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone. "The Factor" begins right now.
Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly, thank you for watching us tonight. Very important program tonight. And we have some format changes to accommodate all the information. The "Talking Points Memo" will be a bit later on. It's about who is helping Iran while that country is killing Americans. And General electric heads that list.
Also, Reverend Wright back in fighting form. He attacked me, Sean Hannity, and FOX News over the weekend. That report coming up in our next block.
But the lead story tonight is very bad weekend for Barack Obama. It all began with a speech in San Francisco.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BARACK OBAMA
(D), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Almost immediately, Hillary Clinton went on the attack.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
Like some of you may have been, I was taken aback by the demeaning remarks Senator Obama made about people in small town America. Senator Obama's remarks are elitist and they're out of touch.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Well, then Obama counter attacked.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
I'm not a perfect man and the words I chose I chose badly. But I've got to say I'm a little disappointed when I start hearing the exact same talking points coming out of my Democratic colleague, Hillary Clinton. She knows better. She knows better. Shame on her.
(APPLAUSE)
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Well, Mrs. Clinton didn't back up. She rubbed it in.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
You know, my dad took me up behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton, and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Shoot when she was a little girl. Well, Obama mocked that.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
She's talking like she's Annie Oakley.
(LAUGHTER)
Hillary Clinton is out there, you know, like she is out in the duck blind every Sunday.
(LAUGHTER)
She's packing a six shooter. Come on.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
O'REILLY: Kind of like a Cosby routine. Joining us now to analyze, man of the people, Kinky Friedman in Austin, Texas, FOX News analyst Juan Williams in Boston.
Very entertaining, Juan. I mean, it doesn't get better than this, does it? I mean...
JUAN WILLIAMS: No, Annie Oakley.
O'REILLY: First you have Senator Obama goes to San Francisco. He thinks it's a private fundraiser, by the way, which is why the audio is so scratchy. Somebody's going to tape everybody no matter where they go. What do you think he was trying to tell the San Francisco people, Juan?
WILLIAMS: Well, what he says was that he was trying to indicate what they could expect if they went out to Pennsylvania to campaign for him that they're going to small towns, Bill. And in those small towns, they would find people who have been devastated by economic problems in their communities. And according to Barack Obama, what he meant to say, and he says he said it badly, but what he meant to say was, you know, these folks have been left with nothing but their family, nothing but their guns and their traditions as he put it, tradition of going hunting, nothing but sort of resentment towards immigrants who might have come in or jobs that have been outsourced. And so he says that's, if you put the best spin on it, that's what he is trying to say.
O'REILLY: Yes, but why...
WILLIAMS: I would add this to it...
O'REILLY: ...do you need to mention in an economic situation guns and church? Guns and church have been here since 1776.
WILLIAMS: Right.
O'REILLY: And we've had some good economic times. So it's not like the economy started wobbling last October and everybody started going to church and buying rifles. So I'm not getting that -- I'm not getting the connection, Juan.
WILLIAMS: Well, you see, this is the connection. This is what I was going to add for you is I think he's saying that Republicans, Republicans and people like Karl Rove, you know, the political strategists play on these resentments and turn these poor rubes, you know, away from voting in their self-interest, which is to vote against Republicans and vote for the people, you know, and for economic support and programs that would help to boost them...
O'REILLY: All right.
WILLIAMS: ...instead of voting for tax cuts and the like.
O'REILLY: I'm lost. How do you think this went down, Kinky?
KINKY FRIEDMAN, KINKYFRIEDMAN.COM: Well, I think, Bill, we might be seeing a glimpse into -- we might be seeing a glimpse into the measure of the man. He may have a personal agenda that he is unaware of, let's say to put it kindly, maybe a bias toward the common man.
Jesse Ventura at least waited until he was elected governor before he made crazy comments about guns and religion. And Jesse, of course, he just didn't realize that wrestling was real and politics is fixed. Now Obama, I can't account for.
O'REILLY: All right. Do you think that the folks are going to hold it against him? Is this a big, big problem for Barack Obama going forward? Kinky?
FRIEDMAN: It's a big problem. It's a big problem. I think a bigger problem is that the only places he wins are states that begin with an "I", you know, Iowa.
O'REILLY: New Hampshire?
FRIEDMAN: Idaho and -- I ain't sure about Indiana either at this point.
O'REILLY: All right.
FRIEDMAN: So...
O'REILLY: Now Juan, he's got on his resume - he's got now Reverend Wright, who we're going to come up behind. The reverend's on the road again. And he's got this. And it looks like it's a drip, drip, drip. And I don't know, is this going to turn it now to Hillary Clinton 's favor, Juan?
WILLIAMS: Well, you know, Hillary Clinton's folks are making the argument today, Bill, that how you can expect Barack Obama to win an election, you know, in November, if he can't win Ohio, he can't win Pennsylvania, he can't win Indiana. I think Kinky is on to something here. You know, they're making the case. He's not going to win the Jewish vote, not going to win the Hispanic vote. And here he has trouble connecting. He's patronizing, putting down working class white people and the idea of religion. You just said we've had religion since the start of the country. We've had people shooting.
You know, so their argument is to the super delegates, you're setting yourself up for Mike Dukakis or John Kerry...
O'REILLY: Yes, that's what they're doing behind the scenes. But you know, it looks like Pennsylvania, that was a pretty big mistake.
Kinky, one last question for you. If you have a candidate who is very quick, like Barack Obama, and that was a good Annie Oakley line, was it not? Can he divert attention back to her?
FRIEDMAN: Well, he can. I guess it would be a deadly game, Bill. This -- his talking is almost like free word association. I mean, look at it this way, at least he didn't say anything bad about pickup trucks, you know, but...there's...
O'REILLY: That's about the only thing that didn't - but it wasn't -- I'm not going to start to explain for Barack Obama.
FRIEDMAN: He's working without a net.
O'REILLY: He can explain for himself when he comes on here. But I do think it was a big mistake. I think it'll hurt him in Pennsylvania. I could be wrong as always. Gentlemen, thanks very much.
Next on the rundown, the return, as we mentioned, of Reverend Wright. I don't think he likes me very much. But what exactly is his beef?
And later, while Iran kills Americans in Iraq, some corporations are helping that country. The General Electric company is one of them, upcoming.
